On August 30th, a near-tragic incident near the Southport Library in Gold Coast transformed an ordinary citizen into a bona fide hero. Casey Wright, a 39-year-old stunt performer, exhibited extraordinary courage when he stepped in front of an out-of-control vehicle to save the life of a 4-year-old girl. Police officials have labelled Wright's act as heroism of the highest order.
The Incident - Casey Wright
On that fateful Wednesday, Wright and the young girl found themselves in the path of an out of control vehicle that had mounted the sidewalk. Reacting instantly, Wright acted in a flight or fight manor & shielded the child taking the full impact of the collision upon himself. The force of the impact threw him 2 to 3 metres before he slammed against a concrete wall and fell onto the pavement. Miraculously, the young girl escaped life threatening injuries and was discharged from the hospital the same day. Mr Wright, however, sustained severe injuries that necessitated immediate medical intervention.
Medical Condition and Prognosis
Casey Wright is currently under hospital care, facing a daunting list of medical challenges. He has suffered multiple spinal injuries, received 35 staples to mend his scalp, and is recovering from a series of deep lacerations and abrasions. Spinal surgery remains a possibility as medical advisors closely monitor his condition to determine the best course of treatment and recovery. Although Wright has a long road ahead, the outlook is uncertain. He worked as a stunt performer and was contracted as a stunt double for the upcoming movie "Minecraft" at the time of the incident. Due to the severity of his injuries, it remains unclear when, or if, he will be able to return to his profession.
